Overview

Combine absolute expert game rangers and animal trackers, the best safari vehicles with haute cuisine chefs, top service staff and luxurious accommodation and you get the award-winning African game lodges of Sabi Sabi in the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve which shares an unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park. Sabi Sands is reserved for guests staying there only, but as far as the animals are concerned, it is part of the Greater Kruger National Park with no visible boundary or fence dividing the two.

Another important difference is that the game rangers here have the right training and experience to be allowed to drive topless vehicles and go off-road when trying to get closer to animals. They are armed and highly trained.

There are four lodges, each with a different subtly expressed but unique ambience. Selati Camp has a colonial explorer feel, Bush Lodge a more African adventure and family-friendly environment, Little Bush Camp has a closer to-nature touch with quiet seclusion and uninterrupted proximity to the bush, and Earth Lodge has an afro-modern award-winning eco-friendly landscape blending architecture.

Each one has deluxe accommodation and also ultra-luxury suites the crème de la crème being the President’s Suite at Earth Lodge.

Please scroll to the bottom to view the different lodges.

Included in your package are return flights from Johannesburg to Skukuza Airport inside the Kruger National Park, transfers to the lodge of stay and 3 nights luxurious accommodation with game drives at sunrise and sunset and environmental awareness walking safari in the bush with an armed ranger (optional).

Because the world-famous Panorama Route lies on the road route from Johannesburg Airport we can include an extra night in your package for a road transfer via the Panorama Route to Sabi Sabi. We can substitute this road transfer for the flight to Skukuza Airport if you have a day to spare, with a small extra charge. Then you will get to visit God’s Window, Mac Mac and Lisbon Waterfalls,  Bourkes Luck Potholes, and Blyde River Canyon, the 3rd deepest river canyon in the world (deepest “green” canyon), before arriving the lodges. You can then, of course, fly back.

Itinerary for This Tour

Day 1

Depart O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, on a flight to Skukuza in the Kruger National Park. On arrival at Skukuza Airport you will be met and transferred to your Sabi Sabi lodge in time for lunch. After lunch check in to your room and relax for a while in the ambiance of the lodge, perhaps taking an exploratory stroll around the extensive protected area. If time allows, perhaps spend some time at one of the spas enjoying a treatment or massage or take a dip in the pool.

In the late afternoon, you will gather with fellow guests for High Tea and then be assigned your open safari vehicle and guide and tracker for your stay. Then head off  into the Sabi Sands Reserve in search of the iconic wildlife of Africa. Game drives are generally 3 hours long and end just before or after sunset depending on the time of year. Take care to bring along a light jacket and in winter a scarf and hat. It may not seem cold while standing still but the airflow in the open vehicle can be a little chilly in the late evening/early morning and decidedly so in our cool dry season.

Return later for dinner, usually joined by your ranger, to recap on what you have sighted earlier on safari. In the warmer times of the year (which is most of the year) dinner is under the stars of the clear African sky. Fine dishes to your taste and any dietary requirement are prepared by expert chefs.

Accommodation Sabi Sabi (your choice of Bush Lodge, Selati Camp, Earth Lodge or Little Bush Camp) lunch, dinner, bed, and breakfast, daily game activities and selected beverages included

Day 2

Rise before or just after dawn depending on the time of year and meet your guide and tracker for early morning juice and/or coffee/tea and snacks and then depart on safari. The Sabi Sands Reserve has some of the highest concentrations of predator felines in the Kruger National Park and indeed Africa particularly leopard but they are elusive so count yourself one of the luckiest if you encounter a leopard on your first safari here! Your knowledgeable guide and tracker will get you close up to a selection of lion, elephant, leopard, rhinoceros, African buffalo ( the Big 5) as well as majestic giraffe, smartly turned out zebra, gamboling impala, wallowing hippo and sauntering sable, every day something different and always something extraordinary because life in the wild is never routine!

Return for breakfast and a mid-morning relax. If the weather is not too hot you might request a short bushwalk given by your armed ranger. A walk in the bush gives a perspective on the smaller elements of life and happenings at ground level in this untouched environment. Don’t worry about a close-by lions roar or hyena cackle your ranger is trained how to react, is armed and knows how to deal with this eventuality!

Lunch is served on the dining terrace or if it is a little hot perhaps in the airconditioned restaurant or even in your chalet/room if you seek quietude.

Again enjoy the ambience of the lodge and Sabi Sands and experience the deep relaxation and feeling of peace brought by being in this far away from the city place.

Then once more gather for afternoon snacks go with your guide and tracker for your evening game drive and dinner thereafter.

Accommodation Sabi Sabi (your choice of Bush Lodge, Selati Camp, Earth Lodge or Little Bush Camp) lunch, dinner, bed, and breakfast, daily game activities and selected beverages included

Day 3

Rise again with the dawn to a now familiar rhythm, the beat of life in the bush and the expectation of more wildlife adventures. The routine will be the same sunrise and sunset safaris with complete relaxation in between but what you see and experience on safari may be completely different!

Accommodation Sabi Sabi (your choice of Bush Lodge, Selati Camp, Earth Lodge or Little Bush Camp) lunch, dinner, bed, and breakfast, daily game activities and selected beverages included

Day 4

Your last sunrise safari! Then the following breakfast and a short relax you will say farewell to the  Lodge and Sabi Sands and be taken to the airstrip for your return flight to Johannesburg. But if you want to fly on to Cape Town or add on one of our tours to Swaziland or Mozambique ( these countries are close by) let us know and we will adjust your package accordingly.
