Tour and Safari for Altobelli Family 11-16 June.

Price From : ZAR ZAR30688.00 (Per Person Sharing) Currency Converter

This tour starts and ends at OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg. The first day will be an introduction to Johannesburg, Soweto, and South Africa or also just as good, a tour of Pretoria. By learning about Johannesburg/Pretoria, you will understand how South Africa came about as a country, how it is now, and possibly some idea of where it is going. Our experienced guide will take you safely around many of the significant locations in the city and of course, include its famous suburb of Soweto.

After spending a day in Africa’s richest city, Johannesburg or its capital, Pretoria, you will then journey through one of our most scenic regions, the Panorama Route and to our famous safari area of the Kruger National Park. On the way, you will stop at many exciting and interesting places, beautiful waterfalls, deep canyons, forested mountain passes, old mining villages, go for a boat trip in the canyon, see some traditional dancing and singing and learn about the fast-disappearing traditional African way of life. However, you will also visit a project that is helping to improve the way of life of the rural, poorer folk who live around the Kruger National Park.

Itinerary for This Tour

Day 1

Thursday 11th June 2026

Mmilo tours guide will meet and greet you off your flight at Or Tambo International Airport. This should be at about 9.30am as your plane arrives at 8.30am.

He will take you and your luggage first to the hotel where you will be staying. It is a hotel called Anew Hotel (yes thats its name) Centurion near Mmilo Tours. We get a very good rate there for families. You will be in two rooms, a family suite taking 4 of you and a standard room taking two of you. The rooms should be close together. It is Bed and Breakfast. We have not booked dinner as you might like to take the choice of dinner there or in the shopping Mall right next door where there is a wide variety of restaurants and fast food outlets. The mall is large and modern but its easy to get lost so please stick together or keep your cell phones for contact!

After leaving your luggage here for sfae keeping our guide can take you on a tour of Johannesburg or Pretoria Whichever you prefer.

You can read about them on our website https://mmilotours.com/day_trips/johannesburg-and-soweto-day-trips/

Gauteng: Johannesburg and Soweto Day Trips

Gauteng: Pretoria City Day Tours

Whichever you want to do please discuss with the guide what you would prefer to see on either of these tours. The Pretoria tour usually includes the Premier Diamond Mine where the world’s biggest diamonds have been found.

There are more Day Trips that you could do to chose from Here

The guide will drop you after the tour at Anew Hotel Centurion in the early evening.

( we have not yet included this hotel in the costing. It is easy to book online. I am waiting for a quote from them we can compare and you can take the cheapest?)

Day 2

Friday 12th June

Mmilo Guide will pick you up from Anew Hotel after an early breakfast probably at about 8.00am. Like yesterday he will be driving a comfortable air conditioned minibus suitable for a family like yours with luggage. It is usually a Toyota Quantum 10 seater.

He shall set out in the direction of the Kruger National Park and the Panorama Route northern part. The plan in this tour is to visit the northern part today and the southern part on the day you come back, the 16th June. This is a more efficient way to do it and you dont miss anything.

You will reach the first attraction Bourkes Luck Potholes at about 12.30-1.00pm. This is a lovely area for the kids to explore and stretch their legs

Dont worry there are safety railings. There is some wildlife here too, the Klipspringer Antelope That jump from rock to rock on their toes like ballerinas.

There is a fast food stall here where you can have a light lunch

Next stop is the Blyde River Canyon Viewpoint where you can see the river over a 1000 metres below and also the Blyde River Dam

From here you will cross the Abel Erasmus Pass and descend to the bottom of the Panorama Route. Here, much lower down it is much warmer than on top and you will stay in a beautifully wooded game reserve called Moholoholo ( means The Almighty) on the slopes of the escarpment mountains.

Your stay is at Forest Camp in two chalets with viewing decks. From which you should see many animals. None of them are dangerous, giraffe, zebra, warthog, bushbuck, kudu, impala, jackal, baboons, monkeys, some smaller cats ( serval, civet, african wildcat) and much birdlife and smaller creatures, at night you will see the flash of the many bushbabies eyes in the trees.

You will check in and have dinner

Day 3

Saturday 13th June 2026

This morning before breakfast you will go for an educational bush walk before breakfast. The young guides know exactly how to interest and entertain the young kids.

After breakfast you will leave Forest Camp and go for the Boat Trip in the Canyon. The boat goes on the dam among hippos and crocodiles beneathe the towering cliffs of the Canyon.

After the boat trip you will depart in the direction of Guernsey Game Reserve but on the way you will stop at Nourish Eco Village.

This is a community uplift initiative with local and overseas volunteers and organisations assisting with training , education and health interventions.

Here you will meet members of the local communities who mainly belong to the Tsonga one of our ethnic groups. You will do one of the tours described.

Later in the afternoon you will reach Guernsey Game Reserve and Phelwana Lodge.

It is our mid winter in June so it gets dark around 5.30pm. It is also our dry season with clear skies particularly here away form the mountains. You will have dinner under the stars!

There are even more animals here but again none of the dangerous ones. Bear in mind of course that any wild animal can be dangerous so always keep your distance. But here too are some of the larger antelope, wildebeest, eland and hartebeest as well as all the others that you saw at Forest Camp.

Your stay here for 3 nights will be in a 6 sleeper Family Villa right next to a small dam.

Day 4

Sunday 14th June

Today you will depart in an open safari vehicle with the lodges experienced guide at around 5.00am, just before sunrise, for the Kruger National Park. Packed breakfasts will have been prepared for each of you as the trip will take 8-9 hours. On the trip to the gate the open vehicle travels at about 7o kms an hour so even though it may not feel cold while standing still please wear a warm jacket scarf and hat. You may like to take it off Later inside the reserve. The guide will also stop for you to buy lunch at Satara Rest Camp where there are some fast food places and restaurants.

The Kruger National Park is one of the world’s premier wildlife conservation sites. Here protected by law and fences are all the iconic animals of Africa including the Rhino which has virtually dissappeared in other reserves ( but with out their horns so they will be left alone by the poachers). So round every corner is the possibility of a great encounter. Lion, leopard, elephant, Buffalo and Rhino ( the Big 5) are all here in their hundreds as well thousands of others, not to mention the birds and reptiles and fish.

Lion Cub plays Kruger National Park

You will return to the lodge as dark falls about 5.30am. Perhaps a short rest before dinner.

Day 5

Monday 15th June

Today will be another thrilling day just like yesterday in the Kruger National Park

Returning to Phelwana for dinner.

Day 6

Tuesday 16th June

Depart today back up the escarpment in the direction of Johannesburg stopping at some more attractions of the Panorama Route, the southern part. This is mainly around the village of Graskop. Here you will visit Gods Window, the Pinnacle, Lisbon and Berlin waterfalls and the Gorge Lift. You will stop for lunch in Graskop where it is a tradtion to have tastily filled pancakes savoury and sweet or both if you have a good appetite as they are very filling.

The Gorge Lift Waterfall

Gods Window

After lunch cross the Long Tom Pass, one of South Africa’s most scenic mountain passes with amazing vistas and views. The road goes up and up and doesnt look like stopping at times. Staring about 400 mtres above sea level this morning you will reach over 2000 metres. This route is of course weather dependent and if there is heavy mist another route will be taken.

You will reach Johannesburg OR Tambo  and the City Lodge at around 6.30pm. ( This is definitely the best for you because of your early departure. You can easily walk to your flight. I have not booked it)
