We give more actual time on safari in this package than any other we know of.

More time on safari with Mmilo Tours means you see more of the Big 5 and other wildlife! Not only will our professional, elite tour guides provide you with door-to-door service, but they will also give you an extended game drive (5 hours+) in our own game-viewing vehicle.

Extended Services of Our Elite Tour Guides

Our seasoned guides venture a little further into the reserve, and stop at more of the protected viewing spots, than the lodge’s vehicle, using our own 4×4. So, you get to connect better with the sounds, sights and smells of this pristine bush. An incalculable experience you will long remember!

Use the opportunity to explore the region’s best attractions!

Stops can be made at some of the many attractions such as the Cable car to the top of the Magaliesberg mountains, the Cheetah Centre,  the Elephant Sanctuary (Hartebeespoort), or Sun City  (entrance fees and an extra time charge may apply). Then it is also free of charge to visit the Chameleon Village African Market on the way there or way back.

The route to Pilanesberg is studded with many fascinating historical and scenic places of interest. Our elite tour guides will regale you with their own stories about them. This, along with the lodge’s well-appointed 4-star accommodation, which affords amazing views of wildlife sauntering to the waterholes for a drink, from their inside and outside dining areas, appetizing cuisine to suit all dietary requirements, game sightings from your verandah, and our award-winning service, make for an unparalleled safari experience.

Specific to this Safari

Go deeper into the reserve on our 5-hour extended private 4×4 drive, Family Friendly Lodge, Kids Stay Free, Junior Ranger activities for children. Kiddies programs. Garden games and swimming pool. Underground tunnel into reserve at Kwa Maritane Lodge only. Bush barbeque (Braai) with ethnic African entertainment on selected nights.

Doing this safari from Cape Town.

The Pilanesberg is the easiest and most cost-effective Big 5 Game Reserve to reach from Cape Town, that is, one that is truly wild with all of the iconic animals of Africa roaming free at large, in their thousands. There is no such thing around Cape Town, climatically and territorially it’s just not possible. So you can fly up early on Day 1. and go back late on Day 2. to do this safari. Lanseria ( HLA) is best as it is to the northwest of  Johannesburg on the actual road from there to Pilanesberg. But Johannesburg Airport (JNB) will work too. We can book the most optimal flights for you or advise you and you can book them yourself online. There are plenty of flights as it is the busiest air route in Africa. We will meet you off your flight and drop you off to go back or for your onward flight to any other destination.

Walking Safari

Both lodges also offer a walking safari experience which gives a quite different set of perspectives to a driving safari, and we can book this for you, as an extra charge, as part of your visit, but only recommend if you are staying two nights. It depends on availability and there is a minimum of 4 participants required.

Enjoy lunch on arrival at Bakubung Bush Lodge on their dining terrace with stunning views of the reserve and animals followed by check in to your room at the lodge. Short relax or swim and then go for evening game drive followed by dinner on the Bakubung Terrace. (On Wednesdays and Saturdays there is a “Bush Braai ” option instead of Dinner) a “Bush Braai” is a South African barbeque held at a location deep in the bush of the reserve. This is reached on a short night drive with a game ranger there and back.

  • Early pick up on departure day (8:00am) to give you maximum time to enjoy the trip to the reserve and the lodge surroundings.
  • Lunch on arrival.

The safari price excludes:

  • Drinks, gratuities, telephone calls & other items of a personal nature
  • International & domestic flights

Not Included in the price:

If coming from Cape Town, return flight to Lanseria. We can add this for you. Lanseria is a very convenient airport to Pilanesberg with 2 of our airlines providing service from Cape Town daily. If flying on Friday or Monday there is a direct flight to, or from Pilanesberg Airport which is even more convenient but usually only possible one way and then to/from Lanseria the other way. It is certainly worth the effort! Game reserves near Cape Town do not compare favourably with ones here up north and cost just about the same even with the flight cost added from there.

Other Mmilo Tours trips:

Stops can be made at some of the many attractions such as the Cable car to the top of the Magaliesberg mountains, the Cheetah Centre, the Elephant Sanctuary (Hartbeespoort), (entrance fees and an extra time charge may apply). Stopovers at extra attractions mentioned can be made if time allows.

Accommodation Note: All the hotels and lodges are as reflected in this itinerary, but if for reasons beyond the control of Mmilo Tours this is not possible, they will be replaced with establishments of the same star grading.

Important: Please read the itinerary carefully, noting any optional activities you or some members in your group may want to take part in. You do not have to take part in any of the optional activities if you do not wish to. It helps us in our planning to know if you are interested and the number of participants.

These additional optional activities are not costed into this scheduled tour, and if you choose them, you pay the extra amount involved either directly to Mmilo Tours in advance, or on arrival at the venue. You will be informed accordingly by Mmilo Tours, and they are extra to the basic cost of the tour.

All our tours and packages are subject to availability at the time of booking and payment and accommodation is in a standard double room at Bakubung Bush Lodge or Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge.
