Itinerary for This Tour

Day 1

Your Pilanesberg adventure begins with a pickup at Lanseria Airport, followed by a scenic 90-minute drive through one of the world’s oldest mountain ranges and past the richest platinum mines on Earth. Arrive at Pilanesberg Game Reserve, set within the remains of a 2-billion-year-old volcanic crater, home to thousands of Africa’s iconic wildlife species, including the Big Five.

Enjoy a private, extended 5-hour game drive in a specialised 4×4 SUV, venturing deeper into the park than standard open safari vehicles. While traditional lodge game drives last only 3 hours with limited stops, the Mmilo extended safari offers multiple opportunities to exit the vehicle at safe viewing spots, providing a truly immersive safari experience.

Choose your preferred safari schedule, either on Day 1 or Day 2. Before entering your lodge, enjoy a leisurely lunch on an open dining terrace overlooking a waterhole where wildlife gathers to drink. Your afternoon safari continues until sunset, taking in the breathtaking landscapes as the African bush comes to life in the golden hour.

Day 2

Wake up to the sounds of the African bush and set off before sunrise for a dawn safari—the most active time for wildlife. Start your day with coffee and rusks, a traditional South African pre-safari treat, before heading into Pilanesberg Game Reserve for another unforgettable game drive.

With a packed picnic breakfast, you’ll stop at scenic viewpoints and waterhole hides, where you can stretch your legs and take in the sights and sounds of nature. Observe crocodiles and hippos in and out of the water and various birds and other wildlife gatherings to drink.

Your private guide and the SUV safari format will maximise your game-viewing experience, ensuring you maximise your time in the Big Five territory. Wildlife sightings are always unpredictable—this is the wild, untamed African bush, where the big cats hunt and roam freely.

Midday, return to the lodge for lunch and relax before a waterhole, watching the ever-changing wildlife scenes unfold. After 7 to 8 incredible hours on safari, begin your return journey, departing Pilanesberg at approximately 3:00 PM for Lanseria Airport.
