The Elephant Sanctuary at Hartbeespoort near Johannesburg and Pretoria provides a safe haven for African elephants and offers a unique platform for guest education and interaction.

The programs are guest and elephant driven, which means the most important part of the operation is to ensure happy elephants and satisfied guests. The close encounter with elephants you experience at The Elephant Sanctuary is truly one of a kind.

All the elephants are African Elephants (Loxodonta Africana) whose trust has been gained through unique reward based training. Elephant Sanctuary believes in forming bonds between humans and elephants. To this end, all the elephants are exercised and stimulated daily, which provides a firm foundation for trust.

The Elephant Sanctuary is a family oriented operation catering for both young and old, focusing on education through interaction, so you will not only learn a lot about elephants, but also get to touch, feel, feed, walk trunk-in-hand with these magnificent animals. Elephants are highly intelligent and delightful – when meeting them you will discover that each one has a different character, personality and temperament.

Combine with Monkey Sanctuary and lunch.

The monkey sanctuary is on the same premises and there are hour-long tours on the hour so you can have a tour combining the elephants and monkeys with light lunch. ZAR5,120.00 for 1 person. ZAR6,510.00 for 2 people and ZAR2,250.00 for each additional person above 2.

Extended day, combine with one or more of the many regional attractions

Combine with any one of the following: Lesedi African Village, Rhino and Lion Park, Lion and Safari Park, Sterkfontein Caves and Fossil Centre, Maropeng, De Wildt Cheetah Centre, Drive through Magaliesberg Mountains and around Hartbeespoort Dam scenic area with a visit to Chameleon Village (Africa’s biggest craft market). The final price of the extended tour will depend on the venues chosen as entrance prices vary and the standard day tour is 8 hours. Extra hours will be added at the going rate of ZAR200 per person/hour after that
