Overview

Rest peacefully amidst the sounds of the wild, the roar of lion or cackle of hyena, and wake to the myriad sounds of the bushveld dawn; this on the first part of this luxury 4 Star tour of South Africa’s greatest wildlife location, the Kruger National Park (KNP).

Staying inside this 2 million hectare expanse of wilderness ( bigger than Wales ) in one of the concession luxury lodges is a unique, sensory experience that you will recall long after your visit is over. You will pursue the Big 5 with your game ranger on morning, and sunset safari games drives, and experience the thrill of spotting Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhinoceros and African Buffalo in their natural magnificence, and perhaps capture that perfect image for all time. Of course these are far from being the only animals worth seeing. There all the iconic creatures of Africa, Giraffes, Hyena, Cheetah, African Wild Dog, Hippopotamus, Baboons, Warthog, Zebra, and then of course along with the majestic Kudu, elegant Impala many species of “buck” or antelope.

Cape Town is situated between the natural splendour of Table Mountain National Park and the sun drenched ocean. Here, you will feel the excitement of a modern, vibrant African city but also elements that smack of Mediterranean Europe!. Exquisitely beautiful sea and mountain scapes and verdant vineyards are entwined. This is the ‘Mother City’ which has been described by travellers as where Europe meets Africa as it is both a sophisticated city but around it is still the impoverished reality of Africa.

Swim and stroll with African penguins or sunbathe on the gigantic boulders at Boulders Beach with these amiable creatures and catch a cable car ride to the table top summit to view one of the most stunning vistas in the world in this, the “fairest cape” on earth. Visit Cape Point where the cold Benguela current converges with the warm Mozambique current and travel with the funicular car up to the lighthouse where you can see the most astounding views of the ocean stretching away in the distance towards the South Pole. Board a ferry to the infamous, but picturesque, Robben Island, the place of Nelson Mandela’s incarceration for decades and also a nature reserve. From the island are unequalled seaward views of the city and mountain.

Being a waterfront there is the seagoing atmosphere created by the comings and goings of sea craft of many sizes and descriptions, then there are the tourist attractions of the world class Aquarium and "Big Wheel" street performers, some of Cape Town’s best restaurants and shops and the departure point of the ferry for Robben Island.

Following an early lunch, transfer to the Robben island ferry departure point at the V&A Waterfront, for your trip to the island and guided tour. The island infamous for the incarceration of Nelson Mandela and other political leaders of his time, but also famous for its amazing variety of flora and fauna of land and sea and for its views of Cape Town and the mountain from the sea.

Accommodation Portswood Hotel  Bed and Breakfast

Optional Activities:

If you wish you can elect to hike up (or down) Table Mountain and so catch the cable car in the opposite direction. This is an excellent way to experience the mountain and get bragging rights to take home! Its about a 2 hour hike depending on the route taken. There is a longer route that takes about 3.5 hours from the back of the mountain Starting at Kirstenbosch Gardens (one of the world's most beautiful botanical locations). Let us know if you want us to arrange this!

Day 3

Today you will experience a private guided tour around the Cape Peninsula. This tour takes in the stunning views of sea and mountains for which the Cape of Good Hope is world renowned. The centre of it is Cape of Good Hope itself where myth has it the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. On your way there, you will drive over Chapmans Peak, one of the world’s must beautiful stretches of coastline and visit the picturesque fishing harbour of Hout Bay at its foot. In Hout Bay you can take a short ride in one of the waiting boats out to the huge congregations of seals that fill every piece of space atop Seal Island and other rocky islets at the mouth of the bay. They are in constant motion in and out of the ocean many coming right up to the boat.

The Cape of Good Hope is situated in a national park with many of South Africa's non predatory animals roaming free and so you are on a short safari here too! Besides the Cape of Good Hope you will go up to the lighthouse at Cape Point, probably the most photographed lighthouse in the world. From here on a clear day you are afforded the view of angels a 360 degree sweep of the entire False Bay coastline and the Cape mountains to the north, east and west and then southwards the expanse of ocean that goes all the way to the south pole. Many say that to be here during a storm is the most impressive as this is when you can witness the awesome power of the wind and waves that give this cape another of its names, the Cape of Storms! But these do not happen that often, fortunately, and only in our winter. On your way back to Cape Town you will visit Boulders Beach with its famous African Penguins and perhaps put your feet up for a moment before returning to Cape Town and the waterfront for the evening at your leisure. Overnight as per previous night

Today we could arrange a City Tour to take in the attractions mentioned above.
But another alternative would be a Winelands Tour. This takes in the beautifully scenic and fertile region lying mostly amongst the dramatic Cape Mountains. Here the valleys have some of the best grape growing conditions on earth as well as some of the most productive orchards, with huge areas of apple, plum, peach and apricot orchards. The wine farms welcome tastings of their produce in their cellars with an expert on hand to tell you of the particular terroirs and cultivars that influence and make their various vintages and their particular distinct characteristics. At one of them you will partake of a gourmet lunch perhaps in Franschhoek which lies across the impressive Franschhoek Pass where the French Huguenot tradition is carried on in its reputation as the gourmet capital of South Africa.

Day 6

Depart at dawn for another exhilarating safari game drive in the Kruger National Park. Experience wild life in the park as the sun rises, truly unforgettable! Later after a memorable day spotting the Big 5 (Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhinoceros) and the other numerous game species relax at the pool and enjoy the surroundings of this excellent lodge. One unexpected treat for some is the sky after dark, clear and filled with stars and if you are lucky a magical full African moon.

Day 7

Wake to another extraordinary day in this wildlife haven, and experience your last morning and sunset safari game drives. Remember if you are a night owl rather than a lark or early bird you can go on the sunset games drives only, and treat yourself to some delightful lazy mornings in the lodge’s wonderful surroundings. But for most people  its best not to waste a moment available to you to see Africa's iconic creatures in the wild so we advise you do both.

Accommodation Shishangeni Lodge, Lunch, Dinner, Bed and Breakfast and Activities

Day 8

This is your final morning in this vast and abundant wilderness. We do hope that you have also taken time to enjoy the other facilities of the lodge, the swimming pool and viewing deck overlooking the Crocodile River where you can often see animals coming to drink and/or hunt. After your morning game drive and breakfast, you will be transferred to Nelspruit Airport (MQP) for your return flight to Jo’burg International Airport (JNB).

Optional Activities:

If you are prepared to leave very early today after a very early breakfast or with a packed one supplied by the lodge we can transfer you by road back to Johannesburg. You will be taken by our guide along the southern part of this route which includes God's Window, Lisbon and Mac Mac Falls, Village of Graskop and the gorge, Sabie Town and Long Tom Mountain Pass.

However if you want to do the full Panorama Route then you can still do your game drive that morning and we will overnight one night on the route enabling you to see the Blyde River Canyon and Bourke's Luck Potholes and Pilgrims Rest Victorian gold mining village and there will be some extra charges for this.
